Writing and Vocabulary

Welcome to our writing and vocabulary tutoring program designed specifically for neurodiverse students in grades kindergarten through twelve. Our goal is to provide individualized support and guidance to help students develop strong writing skills and expand their vocabulary in a supportive and inclusive environment. 

We understand the unique needs and learning styles of neurodiverse students, and we tailor our services to accommodate their specific requirements. Here are the key services we offer:

Individualized Writing Instruction: We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions where we work closely with each student to assess their current writing abilities and create a personalized learning plan. We provide targeted instruction to improve various writing skills, such as grammar, sentence structure, paragraph organization, and overall coherence.

Vocabulary Enhancement: We employ a variety of strategies to help students expand their word bank and improve their ability to choose appropriate and expressive language. We focus on teaching context clues, word roots, prefixes, and suffixes to enhance word recognition and understanding. For non-speaking neurodiverse, we focus on using a thesaurus to encourage vocabulary development through writing and expressing feelings and emotions through better vocabulary.

Writing Process Guidance: We understand that neurodiverse students often benefit from explicit instruction on the writing process. We provide step-by-step guidance, breaking down the writing process into manageable stages such as prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing. We help students develop strategies for generating ideas, organizing their thoughts, and producing cohesive written pieces.

Assistive Technologies: We utilize various assistive technologies and tools to support students with different learning needs. These may include text-to-speech software, speech-to-text applications, and visual aids. We are skilled in identifying and implementing the most appropriate technology based on each student's requirements

Positive Reinforcement and Confidence Building: We believe in creating a positive and supportive learning environment. Our tutors foster a sense of confidence and accomplishment by providing constructive feedback, celebrating students' progress, and encouraging them to take pride in their work. We help students recognize their strengths and develop strategies to overcome challenges.
